Aegires pruvotfolae Fahey & Gosliner, 2004 | |
Location: Alexandra Headland, Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba, Queensland Australia Size: 11 mm Depth: Intertidal Temperature: 24 C |
ORDER: NUDIBRANCHIA yellow |
NOTE: This small yellow aegirid is (what used to be called) Aegires citrinus Pruvot-Fol. However, the review of the family by Fahey & Gosliner amalgamated Notodoris with Aegires thereby making two different species with identical names (Aegires citrinus), that is technically they became homonyms, with this one the junior homonym. This problem was overcome by renaming this species Aegires pruvotfolae Fahey & Gosliner, 2004. However, should a future revision find sufficient grounds to separate the genera Notodoris and Aegires (which seems highly probable), then this species will revert to the specific name citrinus (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Article 59.3). |
